# Bonfire Campus Privacy Policy for Students and Schools

> How Bonfire Campus collects, uses, shares, and protects information from students, staff, and schools, including data from directory sync and SSO.

This Privacy Policy explains how Bonfire Campus ("we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, shares, and protects information when you use Bonfire Campus, Bonfire Campus Activities, Bonfire Campus Alert, and related websites, apps, and services (together, the "Service"). It applies alongside our [Terms of Service](/terms-of-service).

**Effective date:** 9/30/26

## 1. Who This Policy Covers

The Service is used by students from middle school through college, and by teachers, staff, and administrators of participating schools and school districts ("Organizations"). Many accounts are created and managed by an Organization. In those cases, we process personal information on behalf of the Organization, and the Organization's own privacy policies also apply.

## 2. Information We Collect

### Information you provide

* **Account information**, such as your name, email address, school, and grade or role.
* **Content you create**, such as messages, posts, calendar entries, and schoolwork reminders.
* **Activities information**, such as the clubs and activity groups you join and communications with group leaders.
* **Support requests**, such as messages you send to us for help.

### Information from your Organization

When an Organization connects a Google Workspace Directory or Microsoft 365 Directory, we receive directory information to automatically create and manage staff and student accounts. This may include names, school email addresses, roles, and group or class membership.

When an Organization verifies its domain, existing Bonfire Campus accounts using that domain can be enlisted into the Organization. The Organization can then see and manage those accounts, and your permission is not required for this to happen.

### Information from sign-in providers

If you sign in with Microsoft SSO or Google Workspace SSO, we receive basic profile information from that provider, such as your name, email address, and account identifier. We do not receive your password for those services.

### Information collected automatically

* **Device and usage information**, such as browser type, device type, IP address, pages viewed, and features used.
* **Cookies and similar technologies**, used to keep you signed in, remember preferences, and understand how the Service is used.

## 3. How We Use Information

We use information to:

* Provide the Service, including connecting you with students at your school, managing calendars, and tracking schoolwork.
* Deliver classroom announcements through Bonfire Campus Alert, along with assignment reminders and calendar updates.
* Operate Bonfire Campus Activities groups and communications.
* Create and manage accounts for Organizations, and apply the settings they enforce.
* Keep the Service secure, prevent abuse, and enforce our Terms of Service.
* Respond to support requests and communicate with you about the Service.
* Improve and develop the Service.

We do not sell personal information, and we do not use student personal information for targeted advertising.

## 4. How We Share Information

We share information only as described here:

* **With your school community.** Your profile and content may be visible to other users at your school, to Activities groups you join, and to teachers and staff, based on the Service's features and your Organization's settings.
* **With your Organization.** Organizations can access and manage information in accounts they administer.
* **With service providers** who help us host, operate, and support the Service, under agreements that limit their use of the information.
* **For legal reasons**, when required by law or needed to protect the rights, safety, and security of users, schools, or the Service.
* **In a business transfer**, such as a merger or acquisition, subject to this Policy's protections.

## 5. Student Privacy

Bonfire Campus is designed for students, and we take their privacy seriously.

* **Children under 13.** Students under 13 may only use the Service through an account created or authorized by their school, or with verifiable parental consent, consistent with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and other applicable laws.
* **School records.** When we process student information on behalf of a school, we do so as a service provider to that school and in line with applicable student privacy laws, such as the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
* **Parent and guardian requests.** Parents and guardians of students using school-managed accounts should contact the student's school to review, correct, or delete their child's information. We will support the school in responding.

## 6. Data Retention

We keep personal information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service. For Organization-managed accounts, retention is controlled by the Organization and our agreement with it. When information is no longer needed, we delete or de-identify it.

## 7. Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect personal information, including support for secure sign-in through Microsoft SSO and Google Workspace SSO. No system is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security. If we learn of a security incident affecting your information, we will notify you or your Organization as required by law.

## 8. Your Choices and Rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or export your personal information, or to object to certain processing.

* If your account is managed by an Organization, contact your school first. Your Organization may control whether your information can be changed or deleted.
* For personal accounts, contact us at the Bonfire Campus Support Portal to make a request.
* Some notifications, such as those required by your Organization, cannot be turned off.

## 9. International Data Transfers

Your information may be stored and processed in North America. If you use the Service from another location, your information may be transferred across borders with appropriate safeguards where required.

## 10. Changes to This Policy

Bonfire Campus is still in development, and we may update this Policy as the Service changes. When we make material changes, we will update the effective date and notify users or Organizations through the Service or by email.

## 11. Contact Us

If you have questions about this Privacy Policy or our data practices, contact us at the Bonfire Campus Support Portal.
